Optimistic Thinking

"Whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable—if anything is excellent or praiseworthy—think about such things."  - Philippians 4:8

On Sunday night at his baptism celebration, a kid who I teach at church (and invited me to his baptism celebration) asked me to tell him my favorite Bible verse. I told him it was Philippians 4:8. He said, "Yeah, that is the perfect verse for you because you are a very optimistic person."

Sweet words, but little does he know that optimism isn't always my attitude. Sometimes I feel like I have to have Philippians 4:8 on repeat multiple times each and every day (especially lately). The world...even the Christian world...make it hard to optimistic when there's so much negativity, threats, and disunity. BUT thinking about the things that Philippians 4:8 talks about are so so important - even during the hard times - because it helps to remap our mind to remember and focus on the blessings God has given us - breath, nature, smiles, hugs, sweet words, and eternal life - just to name a few. 

If you're struggling tonight, I challenge you to take a deep breath and think on something that fits one of the attributes found in Philippians 4:8; remember that God is in control and He will work out what's challenging you in His way and in His time.

As for me, I'm going to think on the lovely comment from that sweet little 4th grade boy and practice what he sees through me.
